Boris Champy

In Burgundy, it is rare for new wineries to emerge. However, Boris Champy took over the domaine, Burgundy's oldest Demeter-certified vineyard, from Didier Montchovet. Champy, an experienced winemaker, focuses mainly on the previously neglected vineyards of the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune. Champy, originally from Champenois, ran the Dominus winery in Napa Valley before moving to Burgundy to Louis Latour and later Clos des Lambrays. After a journey of self-discovery to Santiago de Compostela as a consultant, he seized the opportunity to take over Montchovet's winery.

Montchovet's vineyard, founded in 1984, is located in the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune. From the beginning, he followed organic and biodynamic principles, had his vineyard certified by Demeter® and used only vines from the Prae phylloxera era. These vineyards, once little regarded, are gaining in importance due to climatic changes. Champy and Montchovet focus on biodiversity and eco-protection, with forests, meadows and hedgerows being crucial.

The winery also owns plots in Pommard and Beaune. Soon these will be visible on the labels. Champy stands out for its skilful use of wood, especially in the Pinots. He brings out the character of each site and maintains the freshness of the wines. He also produces a spicy Gamay, Chardonnay and Aligoté. These wines represent the "new" Burgundy, which should not be overlooked.
